OULTON PARK TEST SEES HERRON COMFORTABLY INSIDE CLIO LAP RECORD

Potential ELF Renault Clio Cup returnee Andrew Herron produced yet another outstanding testing performance yesterday, Tuesday, 17th March, at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire where he lapped well inside the existing championship lap record.

Joining JHR Developments drivers Mark Hazell and Thomas Carnaby, the 20-year-old from Dromore in Northern Ireland added yet more weight to the expectation he will make a welcome return to Clio Cup competition this year after showing blistering pace in his latest outing.

As yet unregistered for the 2009 ELF Renault Clio Cup, Andrew lapped on the championship’s new Michelin control tyres with a fastest time inside Jonathan Fildes’ Island Circuit lap record which has stood since mid 2007.

During the afternoon, the drivers present for the unofficially timed test also had the opportunity to run on Oulton Park’s full 2.7-mile International Circuit configuration where Andrew was, once again, incredibly strong.

“We’re really happy with the pace we produced yesterday”, said the former ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup Vice-Champion, “We were fastest of the Clio drivers and were well inside the lap record too which was great. Even though there are different Michelin tyres this year, which should improve the pace, we only used new rubber on the front so to be so quick was very pleasing.”

Andrew will test again later this week, at Silverstone in Northamptonshire, on Friday, 20th March.
